Coaches Code of Conduct

The Coach recognises the responsibilities of being coaches of young people and therefore each coach agrees to:

Arrive early for each session with ample time to ensure equipment can be checked and is ready to use at the start of the session so that each session is safe and productive

Follow BCU and club guidelines and procedures (see relevant policies and procedures) which are available from the Committee, and on our forum http://teestigers.forum.st/f7-official-forms-etc in particular child protection policies.

Hold the appropriate, up-dated qualifications and insurance, ensuring they are updated when required. All coaches will be subject to a CRB check.

Consider the well being and safety of paddlers above all other considerations including the development of performance and minimise any risk.

Communicate as early as possible with the appropriate person (usually a committee member) if unable to attend a session

Treat all paddlers, parents, volunteers and coaches with respect

Hold appropriate boundaries when coaching young people, these include:

- Never coach 1:1 ratio with a young person unless a parent (or person authorised by a parent) is present for the whole session
- Never be responsible for driving an individual young person somewhere. Parents should remain responsible drop off and pick up their children.
- Ensure appropriate conduct outside of coaching contact. No contact should be made through social networking sites and contact should only be made by the coach if contact details have been provided by the parent.
- Always make sure there is another adult present if using the public changing facilities.
- avoid any preferential treatment and demonstrate fairness in coaching.

Communicate any concerns as early as possible with the head coach or the welfare officer.

Maintain a positive, professional and supportive attitude regardless of circumstances.

Be responsible for players whilst in their care and endeavour to bring each individual to their full potential.
