I'll come if someone can give me a lift, I can ref too!

welsh warriors are dave brown's team, pennine C will be simila to the team thta played at national champs, the FOA team will either be kiddies or some older players making a comeback, and that's all I know

Hey,

I'm planning to shoot over to the club house to pick a ba and helmet up before heading to Paul Bone's house...

Tonksie, I think you have the best shot at picking Phil up...

Does anybody have his number, I wasn't if he was arriving from somewhere else?

Well i guess a brief report is in order!

Game 1 v's FOA?(decentish kids)

Won 4-0

not a terrible start to the season, a bit scrappy but got the job done against the better of two FOA teams on the night. Possibly a bit lazy in defence (me!) allowing kids to sit in the zone and just screening off the balls in. won the ball back fairly easily but a few wayward passes on the break cost us a far greater margin of victory.

Game 2 v's Pennine C

Drawn 1-1

completely dominated possession for 11 out of the 12 mins played. very little cohesion in attack resulting in only one goal lead gained in the second half. This was leveled out with a shot from middle range after a corner move which sailed in passed a slightly out of position goalie (probably more due to obstruction) the full time whistle went before we could get back to the centre, BOO! perhapse one thing to remember is that we don't have to give the opposition the ball back when it goes out for a corner just let them use up the time paddleing to get it themselves. We live and learn!

Game 3 v's FOA? (rubbish kids)

Won 1?-1

Lets just say Ledger was in his element! having said that he was addequatly backed up by the rest of the team smashing up a bunch of small children. we learnt from last year that things can go down to goal difference and having been rather miffed by the last result we proceded to play truely awful polo for 12 min scoring at around a goal every 45/60 seconds. Not the most honorable of matches but they did get some concelation after we managed to end up with a keeper whilst playing 5's and their free man slotted one past us, our bad!

Game 4 v's Welsh Warriors

Lost 1-2

This was the most frustating of games. we played some of the best polo of the night once we had gone 1-0 down early on getting back level midway through the second half. We then (I then) spurnned a long shot on the break whilst being brutally paddle fouled (moan, moan!). we then conced in the last 5 seconds as a miscommunication meant that they had a runner who managed to get sandwiched between me and ledger who were both slightly done in but meant that neither of us could bin him. He shot throught 2 paddles and a keeper to give them a fortunateish win.

Game 5 v's Greenstar

No show by greenstar. muppets!

Overall

not a terrible night, but not the start we were looking for. Welsh Warriors certainly look to be the best team in the league at the moment with the rest looking average (including ourselves).

We need to work on coordinating our attacks better and trying to utilise our players strengths to give us the best chance of winning matches. Having looked at the video last night when we did build an attack too often we had 2 light men working the zone from different sides whilst the power houses were stuck playing keep ball waiting for an opportunity to rotate into the zone.

As i said not a disaster in the grand scheme of things but it does mean we are now playing the rest of the season for a playoff place, and can't afford any more mistakes.

It now means you keep to win every game for the rest of the season to do everything you can to avoid the playoffs.

Well done though.

I can make the same offer as Nicky if that's helpful. Am willing to ref/coach but would be to poor to make the drive...

Probs don't need me and cresser so I am happy to sit this one out, then again so might Nicky or you might all prefer him or something.... Surprised

Where abouts are you guys based?... Nicky your in Darlington right? If I'm not mistaken?

Paul,
Your welcome to pope over to my my house and I'll drive up if you like...

This is only a week and a half away!!

the team that said yes to playing were;

5 Feb 2011

Tonksie
Ledger
Jon
Katie
Paul B
Paul G

Phil was a maybe but i think he is away on a field trip (students!).

I guess we'll go down in 2 cars.

If we could get a full team to training next week that would be good (i'm guessing we won't have one tonight at this short notice!)

Just to confirm Tonksie's post, Phil has contacted me and stated that he definately can't play.

Can people please confirm that they are still able to attend and let me know if they can drive (as Tonksie will probabily agree that relying on a lift in my car wouldn't be the best of plans)

Hope to see you at training

Quick report,

Good Skills!

Not totally dominant but smashed our way to 5 straight wins by multipul goals!

So we beat both FOA teams, Derby Rammers, White Rose and Wildcatz, and now just need 4 more at our last tournament to assure us of a playoff place.

Last night was an example of how being disiplined and doing the basics well gets results. Good defensive communication and attacking plans that were simple yet easy to build on seemed to work well.

Having said that we did get distracted by goal difference at a couple of points and had 5 or 6 mins of playing truly awful polo against very poor teams in an attempt to win the ball back break and score. Not good and on reflection as long as we win all our matches goal difference is not going to matter like it did last year.

Chasing worked fairly well even with ledger missing his regular chasing partner, well stepped up Paul. Defensive zone was pretty much rock solid all night with us only conceding long shots from range.

So in summary, keep it up and play well at the next one and then we'll have to check our diaries for playoffs weekend!

oh forgot to mention that Paul Gwyther did an excellent job of lulling the opposition into a false sense of security before we'd even got on for our first match!

Having dropped an excellent warm up pass from myself he then proceeded to chase the ball across the first level of the pool edge took a little skip down to the second level. Then he grasped at the ball with his fingertips only to then show ultimate commitment to catching the ball by following it another step into thin air! affraid

In his defence he did catch the ball before his feet hit the water but the speed at which he entered the pool was impressive! Tom Daley would probably have been dissapointed with the judges scores for artistic impression but it was a truly entertaining moment, definatly a you've been framed moment!

Good Skills Paul! lol! lol!
